each night dawns eternally into

white plum blossoms

This haiku of the week is one of Buson’s death poems. One of the greatest poets of the Edo Period, Yosa Buson was also an accomplished painter: initiallly both his poems and paintings were Chinese-inspired, before he created his own genuine style.
