Ueda Akinari was a Japanese author of the Edo period. His interest in folklore and the supernatural resulted in two masterpieces of Japanese literature, the ghost story collections Ugetsu Monogatari ("Tales of Rain and the Moon") and Harusame Monogatari ("Tales of Spring Rain").
