Morikawa Kyoroku (1656-1715) was another disciple of Basho, albeit less known. He studied with the great haiku Master for ten months, and during that time Basho chose his nickname Kyoroku because he excelled in all six (roku) art forms: calligraphy, painting, spear, sword, horse riding, and haiku.
