I'm seeing the blue sea
the sound of drum has very softened
and spring is in the air
Yamaguchi Sodo, whose real name was Nobuaki, was a haiku poet and a flood control expert during the Edo period. A contemporary of Matsuo Basho, Yamaguchi Sodo met the Great Master for the first time in 1675; the two poets soon became close friends and exchanged letters until the death of Basho in 1694.
