the temple bell fading,
the scent of flowers comes forth-
evening

Kane kiete
Hana no ka wa tsuku
Yube kana.

 

Here’s a poem by Matsuo Basho I came across in the book Cento Haiku by Irene Iarocci (available only in Italian).

According to Iarocci the word Hana in Japanese means flower, but if the type of flower is not specified, it means cherry blossom.
